to the Houma Historic District Commission
The Terrebonne Parish Council established within its borders an historic preservation district commission to promote the educational, economic and general welfare of the public. It began as the Houma Historical District Commission of the Houma Urban Service District of Terrebonne Parish in March of 1986 and was considered an adversary organization. In 2003, the Parish Council passed an ordinance changing the commission form adversary to regulatory. The Regulatory Houma Historic District purpose is to promote the the educational, economic and general welfare of the public through the preservation and protection of all such buildings, sites, monuments, and structures of historic interest or importance through their protection, maintenance, and to review and issue certificates of appropriateness for all proposed alterations, relocations, and new construction within the boundaries of the historic district and any other actions necessary to implement the intent of this article.
