Houma Downtown Development Corporation
The Houma Downtown Development Corporation (HHDC) was created in 1994. The corporation was organized to stimulate economic development in Houma through organization (encouraging cooperation and building leadership in the business community); promotion (creating a positive image for downtown by promoting the downtown area as an attractive place to live, shop and invest); design (improving the appearance of the downtown area); economic restructuring (strengthening and expanding the economic base of the downtown area); and to receive, administer and to distribute funds in connection with any activities related to the above purposes; provided however, that the corporation shall only engage in activities that are in purview of Sec. 501(c) 3 of the Internal Revenue Code of 1954 or corresponding sections of any prior or future law. The HDDC is composed of a board of 15 members.
The mission of the Houma Downtown Development Corporation is to stimulate economic development within the downtown are by: 1) Encouraging cooperation and building leadership in the business community; 2) creating a positive image for downtown as an attractive place to live, work, and invest; 3) Improving the appearance of the downtown area; 4) strengthening and expanding the economic base of the downtown area; 5) encouraging the growth of cultural institutions and activities in the downtown area; 6) encouraging cooperation and building in the business community.
