Main Street Progra

The Louisiana Main Street is a community-driven revitalization program designed to promote the historic and economic redevelopment of traditional commercial districts in Louisiana. The Main Street program improves all aspects of downtown, producing both tangible and intangible benefits. Improving economic management, strengthening public participation, and making downtown a fun place to visit are as critical to Main Street's future as recruiting new businesses and rehabilitating buildings.
The National Trust Main Street Center offers a comprehensive commercial district revitalization strategy known as the "Four Point Approach" that has been widely successful. This approach works together to build a sustainable and complete community revitalization effort. The four points are Organization, Promotion, Design, and Economic Restructuring. For more information Four Point Approach.
The Main Street program also participates in the Louisiana Main to Main event which is an annual statewide initiative of Louisiana Main Street designed to foster economic development and stimulate cultural tourism throughout the state of Louisiana. If you would like more information about this event, please click on Louisiana: Main to Main. Also, each month the Downtown Business Association in conjunction with the Main Street Program offer Downtown Live After 5. It is a series of free live concerts held in the Court Square. In addition, the Main Street Program along with the Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government puts on Houma's annual children's Christmas Parade called "Once Upon a Cajun Christmas". The event takes place in Historic Downtown Houma and ends at the Court Square with the lighting of the Parish tree.
